Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) is a one-time password (OTP) providing higher level of security.
Nowadays, more than anytime in the past, it's crucial to maintain security of data and information, but in the same time, to keep them accessible (even remotely) only to authorised users.
In most companies, user access information are just their username and password. In contrary to standard approach, 2FA complements the user's username and password with one more level of security.
The advantage is, that the user does not have to remember the authorisation code, as it is automatically generated by an application in mobile phone (e.g. Google Authenticator). Each code is unique, valid for a short period of time and completely random, thus not guessable.
The result of using 2FA is much higher level of security of company sensitive data against various kinds of cyber attacks.
OTP thus solves following issues:
- using static passwords.
- repeating password already used elsewhere.
- passwords containing user specific data (name, surname, date of birth, ...).
- passwords derivatives like 'my_secret_password_1', 'new-password-2', ...
- using weak password (use at least 8 alphanumeric characters)
